Pianist Chris White hails from Toronto, Canada. After obtaining a bachelors degree in English from the University of Toronto, he decided to focus his studies entirely on music. While pursuing his master's degree in jazz studies from Indiana's prestigious Jacobs School of Music, he performed with the Bloomington Symphony, David Baker, Jamey Aebersold and Oliver Nelson, Jr. In 2010, he completed his doctoral of musical arts in jazz performance at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
Currently, White works as a freelance musician in Chicago. He has recorded two CDs, "Young at Heart" and "Tributaries." Currently a faculty member of the Shell Lake Improvisation and Combo Camp, he also served on the faculty of the Janice Borla Vocal Jazz Camp.
Joining White for this concert will be fellow members of the College's highly-esteemed jazz studies program.
This season's jazz series is co-presented by Flashpoint Creative Arts, whose goal is to promote greater understanding of and participation in the art of improvisation with innovative artistic and educational experiences that draw people more deeply into the improvisatory process.
