The Making of a Bahu, a journey of loss and recovery of identity!
Described as powerful, moving, and thought provoking by audience members, Aavegh dance troupe, took over 400 audience members this past year through a journey familiar with many Indian women: socialized to be educated and independent women to suddenly transitioning to the role of daughter-in-law, met with high expectations of being moldable and dependent. The performance includes eight Indian fusion dances, each complemented with original artwork and quotes from Indian women interviewed as part of research conducted by Artistic Director of Aavegh, Supna C. Jain, and Dr. Mara K. Berkland, Professor of Communication at North Central College. The performance will be followed by an invigorating and passionate exchange of dialogue between the researchers, Aavegh members, and audience members on their thoughts and impressions of the performance and the research it was based on.
