Every person instinctively desires to change the world for the better, and nowhere is this more apparent than on the campus of North Central College. The liberal arts education that North Central provides arms students with the academic background necessary to be an informed and productive citizen capable of affecting change, and this environment has inspired students to start numerous campus organizations oriented towards positive social change throughout the years. These organizations now want to demonstrate this education, and extend this same opportunity for an education in activism to the community at large.
Action Day 2017 will be a day-long conference on the campus of North Central College on May 20th, 2017. The event will be focused on the following:
• Understanding: Increasing attendees’ capacity to act.
• Inspiration: Increasing attendees’ motivation to act.
• Skills: Providing attendees with the tools necessary to act.
The event is being planned and facilitated by a coalition of student organizations on campus, in conjunction with North Central’s Leadership, Ethics, and Values program. These students are all inspired by the prospect of providing a gathering place for activists and activists-to-be for our campus community and the suburban community we belong to that shows its interest its activism every day.
Action Day 2017 will feature workshops, exhibitors, and keynote speakers, all of which will help accomplish the goal of providing a fresh perspective on activism to all attendees.
