Event Details:
David Sanborn
One of the most distinctive saxophonists in contemporary music since the late '70s, David Sanborn has released more than 24 albums, won six Grammy Awards and has had eight gold and one platinum albums. Having inspired countless other musicians, Sanborn was a seminal influence in reintroducing the saxophone as a prominent instrument in contemporary rock, pop and R&B. Sanborn's solo release in 1975 of "Taking Off"—still considered a classic—further solidified his career. His 1979 release of "Hideaway" became a popular hit and further propelled Sanborn's ascent with the single, "Seduction," being featured in the movie, "American Gigolo." Veteran bassist and composer Marcus Miller joined Sanborn on the 1981 album, "Voyeur." The single, "All I Need Is You," won Sanborn his first Grammy Award for Best R&B Instrumental Performance. In 1983, Sanborn released the hit album "Backstreet" that included Luther Vandross as a featured guest vocalist. In his four decade career, Sanborn has always pushed the boundaries and he continues to do so today. The critically acclaimed 2013 reunion CD with Bob James, "Quartette Humaine," was a bold and challenging recording, forcing both artists from their comfort zones. Sanborn is working on a new album with his former collaborator Marcus Miller. It's been nearly 15 years since they recorded together, and it will be exciting to hear the new work.
