Japanese Spring Festival
The College's department of Japanese will host a Japanese Spring Festival from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Monday, April 18, in the Harold and Eva White Activities Center, 325 E. Benton Ave. Free and open to the public, the festival celebrates Japanese culture at the start of a new school year in Japan. It's also the time in Japan for appreciating the arrival of spring and enjoying cherry blossoms. Visitors can experience Japanese culture through hands-on activities, such as folding paper, Japanese calligraphy, traditional children's games, as well as video games, making rice balls, tasting Japanese teas and more. Visitors also can sample Japanese foods at a minimal charge and experience Awa-odori, a type of traditional dance. Other performances/demonstrations will include koto (zither) and Shakuhachi (Japanese recorder) music and Japanese archery (Kyudo). For more information contact the Japanese program at 630-637-5128.
