Lecture: "Chicago's Irish Nationalists in the Haymarket Era"
Dr. Mimi Cowan, a 1997 graduate of North Central College, will give a free lecture, titled "Ducking for Cover: Chicago's Irish Nationalists in the Haymarket Era," at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 26, in Smith Hall at Old Main, 30 N. Brainard St. Cowan received her doctoral degree from Boston College and currently teaches at Lake Forest College (Illinois). Her research focuses on Irish and German immigrants in 19th century Chicago and how they responded to anti-immigrant sentiment. She is also a frequent contributor to the online history magazine, WereHistory.org. This event is sponsored by North Central's Cultural Events and history department.
