MLK Week and Lux Veritas Speaker: Dr. Leah Francis Gunning
As part of North Central College's MLK Week celebration and Lux Veritas Speaker series, Dr. Leah Gunning Francis will give a talk at 12:15 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 21, in the College's theatre at Meiley-Swallow Hall, 31 S. Ellsworth St. The associate dean for contextual education and assistant professor of Christian education at Eden Theological Seminary, Gunning Francis has been an active and visible presence in Ferguson, Mo., in the weeks following the tragic shooting of Michael Brown last August. She is the author of "Ferguson and Faith: Sparking Leadership & Awakening Community." Her research and teaching focuses on womanist approaches to Christian education, practical theology and youth ministry. In 2012, she was awarded the prestigious Engaged Scholars Fellowship, a congregational studies award that supports her current research project "Also at Risk?: Middle-Class Black Boys and the Reimaging of Christian Education as Social Transformation."
