Rall Symposium Keynote Address: Dr. David Pritchard
North Central College's 18th annual Rall Symposium for Undergraduate Research will feature a keynote at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 12, in Wentz Concert Hall at the Fine Arts Center, 171 E. Chicago Ave., by Dr. David E. Pritchard, Cecil and Ida Green Professor of Physics at The Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Pritchard was thesis advisor and mentor to North Central College President Dr. Troy D. Hammond, who holds a Ph.D. in experimental atomic physics from MIT. Pritchard is a principal investigator in the Atomic, Molecular and Optical Physics Group and works on Basic Atomic Physics in MIT's Research Laboratory of Electronics. The annual Rall Symposium for Undergraduate Research is a forum for North Central College undergraduate students to present their independent scholarly research projects, spanning all academic areas, and is part of a daylong Honors Day event that recognizes top student scholars and their academic achievements. The Symposium was first held in 1998 and is named for the late Dr. Joseph Rall, M.D., Ph.D., North Central Class of 1940, who served as deputy director of intramural research at the National Institutes on Health and was regarded as America's foremost authority on the thyroid.
