"PTSD Nation: Art and Poetry from Survivors of War, Gun Violence and Domestic Abuse"
North Central College will showcase a collaborative exhibit titled "PTSD Nation: Art and Poetry from Survivors of War, Gun Violence, and Domestic Abuse," Feb. 8-April 2. The exhibit is free and open to the public in the College's Oesterle Library Gallery, 320 E. School St. An artist reception will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 8; complimentary refreshments will be served. Presented by director/curator Diana Bilovsky, "PTSD Nation" is focused on educating the public about a growing national concern and the traumas that cause post-traumatic stress disorder. Through poetry and art, which have been created entirely by people who live with PTSD, the exhibit presents a simulated experience of what it's like to acquire and live with PTSD. The two-year traveling exhibit also provides a variety of information about PTSD in our collective culture, the divergent ways that stress and reactions to extreme traumas have been historically treated, and tips for survivors, their loved ones and society as a whole. The exhibit concludes with a Wall of Heroes, featuring biographical information about each participant and emphasis on the many accomplishments each has achieved while living with PTSD. The Oesterle Library Gallery is open Monday through Friday 8am-8pm, Saturday 9am-5pm, and Sunday 12pm-8pm. To learn more about the exhibit contact Nickole C.
