Chicago Sinfonietta, "Rethink, Redefine, Reimagine"
Tradition vs. Innovation. Orchestra vs. Marching Band. Maestro Chen opens the season venerating the trailblazing spirit of Florence Price with Dances in the Canebrakes, and marches us through tradition with works by Benjamin Britten and Ralph Vaughan Williams.
And then things go in a totally different direction, positioning orchestra and punk marching band, Mucca Pazza, in a raucous musical conversation. We’re mashing up classical and punk rock in pure Sinfonietta style. Maestro Chen brings the two sides together in fever pitch with Tchaikovsky’s Overture 1812.
