A colloquium "Religious Opposition to Suppression: German Traditions"
The colloquium "Religious Opposition to Suppression: German Traditions" will be presented at 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 8, in Koten Chapel, followed by discussion. Three speakers include Professor of German Gregory H. Wolf who will discuss "Religious Resistance in the Third Reich: Dietrich Bonhoeffer and Martin Niemoller," guest speaker Michael Lunberg who will speak on "Religious opposition in the German Democratic Republic," and Campus Chaplain Lynn Pries who will talk on "Bonhoeffer and Niemoller: their influence in the United States." An important part of the colloquium will be the dedication of a memorial plaque to Martin Niemoller who, like Dietrich Bonhoeffer, was an important pastor, theologian and resistance fighter to the Nazi dictatorship. The plaque commemorates his 1967 visit to North Central and the 30th anniversary of his death in 1984. The bishop of Berlin-Brandenburg will give an official greeting.
