Take a sensorial journey to Spain without leaving the shores of Chicago. This course explores Spain’s artistic, musical, and culinary landscape hidden within the Windy city. Students will learn about Spain’s global influence through Chicago’s long ties to this country by way of history, art, film, flamenco, and tapas. A walking tour of Chicago will uncover Picasso, Miro, and Plesma’s interactive sculptures. We will also visit the Art Institute of Chicago, a museum that houses fascinating treasures by the Great Masters of the Spanish arts from El Greco to Dali. Students will have the opportunity to experience the mesmerizing passion of a flamenco dance performance. The culinary workshop will teach about the secrets of the Spanish palate and the skills to prepare tapas at home. A breathtaking film honoring the cinematic masterpieces of the 1920s will leave a lasting imprint of the Spanish imagination.
