North Central College students are invited to attend a panel discussion of science alumni to learn about their research and work at 7 p.m. Thursday, May 16, in Madden Theatre at the Fine Arts Center, 171 E. Chicago Ave. A discussion will be led by physicist and professor Michael Chapman, head of the Ultracold Atomic Physics and Quantum Optics research group at Georgia Tech. Chapman has cooled atoms to temperatures within a millionth of a degree of absolute zero, and his lab's research is focused on investigating the quantum behavior of atoms and photons, often at the single particle level. Participants include Blake Young '04, a chemist who works for Exelon Nuclear, and Allison Beckham '09, a general surgery resident at Loma Linda University Medical Center who recently completed her medical studies at Northwestern University's Feinberg School of Medicine.
