"Con los Brazos Abiertos" considers La Aventura Maya K'iche,' a sustainable community tourism project around the time of its 25th anniversary. La Aventura Maya K'iche' is based in the K'iche' Maya community of San Miguel Totonicap'n. Involving about 25 families, the project endeavors to improve local livelihoods by providing various tourist services independent of the large enterprises that predominate tourism in Guatemala. Based on interviews with participants in the project, "Con los Brazos Abiertos" conveys an indigenous perspective on globalized tourism. In the process it reveals something about how people attempt to engage the global economy on their own terms and the benefits and challenges of such engagement. The free screening will take place at 4 p.m. Tuesday, April 16, in Heininger Auditorium at Larrance Academic Center, 309 E. School St.
