Beginning with paper--from found papers in recycling bins to handmade ones made from plants in her backyard--Laura Lein-Svencner sands, alters, abuses and manipulates. Textures are formed by adding gesso, molding pastes and acrylics, with a hint of the hand-pulled stitching with thread and beads. Visual entities grow out of self-discover, and new compositions stem from the need to take risks and explore. She is passionately fascinated by the many ideas that flow through each piece, stimulating the need to gather and research the many aspects of collage still not exposed.
