After selling out its 2011-2012 season, the acclaimed DuPage Symphony Orchestra brings "Great Expectations"—a new season featuring five concerts of musical masterworks inspired by the great monuments of literature. Following a festive opener by Rimsky-Korsakov, Naperville native Peter Kolkay, the only bassoon player ever to win the prestigious Concert Artists Guild International Competition, returns as soloist with the DSO in John Williams’ "The Five Sacred Trees," an evocative essay based on Celtic mythology. Tchaikovsky’s "Manfred Symphony," a complex and engaging musical embodiment of Lord Byron’s tormented hero, makes up the second half of this dramatic opening program.
