He is a 2005 Pulitzer Prize finalist for nonfiction for his book "The Devil’s Highway: A True Story" and a member of the Latino Literature Hall of Fame. He is also a prolific and acclaimed writer whose literature draws from life experiences to explore themes of love, loss and triumph. Among his many books are "Mr. Mendoza’s Paintbrush," "Into the Beautiful North" and "The Hummingbird’s Daughter."
