Chicago Sinfonietta Tribute to Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
This performance is Chicago Sinfonietta’s annual tribute to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and includes two conductors on stage at the same time. With Mei-Ann Chen conducting, special guests include guest conductor Jeri Lynne Johnson, Randall Goosby on violin, Nicole Mitchell on flute and the Apostolic Church of God Sanctuary Choir. The Sinfonietta will perform Torke’s "Javelin;" Bruch’s Violin Concerto No.1, op.26, G minor (3rd movement); Beethoven’s "Fidelio:" Overture, op.72c; Mitchell’s "Flight for Freedom" (world premiere), Ives’ "Central Park in the Dark;" and a traditional selection of gospel music.
