North Central Theatre Department proudly presents "Phedre" directed by Carin Silkaitis.
Based on Euripides' "Hippolytus," this play by one of France's greatest playwrights Jean Racine is a magnificent example of passion overpowering reason. Racine uses Euripides' drama about a tormented Queen hopelessly in love with her stepson to portray the contradictions we encounter when our passions and desires defy our moral convictions. Phedre's tragedy is that she recognizes her desires as sinful and wrong, but is unable to quell them. Her inability to resist her lust has tragic consequences.
