Event Details:
Along the Illinois and Michigan Canal by
Gill, instructional media coordinator at the College, chronicles the heritage of landmarks along the waterway that opened up travel between the Great Lakes and the Mississippi River when it was completed in 1848. Stretching for 96 miles, the Illinois and Michigan Canal is a testament to human ingenuity. Hand dug by thousands of immigrants, the I and M Canal is responsible for making the City of Chicago and her suburbs what they are today. This exhibit focuses on the Illinois Michigan Canal as it appears today, and some of the adjacent parks, buildings and industry that sprang up along the canal's historic path. OPENING RECEPTION: Tuesday, October 19th from 5:00-7:00pm The exhibit opens Sunday, October 17 in Oesterle Library Gallery and is open to the public. Oesterle Library Gallery is located in the Oesterle Library at 320 E School Street, and is open Monday - Thursday: 8:00 am - midnight, Friday 8:00 am - 8:00 pm, Saturday 9:00am - 5:30 pm, and Sunday noon - midnight.
